Golfing Highlights 2017
If you’re a golf fan, you’ll be looking forward to a run of exciting tournaments. Here are our top recommendations for the coming weeks, so you can plan accordingly:
- The Open. The 146th Open is underway at Royal Birkdale, a premiere UK course. We’re looking out for Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Rory McElroy all world-renowned golfers. Harrington impressed the golfing world by becoming the first European to win back-to-back Open Championships since 1905-6 (James Braid), when he won victories at Carnoustie in 2007 and Royal Birkdale in 2008.
- The Porsche European Open. From 27th – 30th July, the Porsche European Open will be held at Green Eagle Golf Course, Hamburg. Alex Levy, of France, will be preparing to defend his title here.
- WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. This World Golf Championships event will be held at Firestone CC, Akron, Ohio, from 3rd – 6th This course was nicknamed ‘Monster’ by Arnold Palmer during the first PGA Championship held here, and always provides a challenging game.
- US PGA Championship. The US PGA Championship, the final major championship of the year, will be held at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, for the first time this year. With a prize fund of more than ten million dollars, this is a great way to wrap up the season and takes place from 10th – 13th August 2017.
